I'm going to fuck you up. [He's wounded, rejected and hurt, of course he's jumping to threats and anger, he's got nothing else to fall back on. After this, Hartley gets to be with his stupid boyfriend and Axel gets to be alone. It's not fair.] You wait, I'm going to get you back for this.
[He raises his hand to his ear and pulls it back. Yep. Blood.] Some friend you are. [He backs up though, slowly, looking him in the eyes.] You hurt me first, you started this and I'm going to finish it.
[There are very few upsides to being raised the way Hartley was and he's not actually sure whether this is even one, but he has learned composure, he's learned to pretend as if he isn't breaking apart and so he can meet Axel's eyes, pressing his lips together as he listens to his threats. Not surprising.
Painful, but not surprising.
Hartley has never been any good at making friends. It would be surprising if he was any good at keeping them.]
You can try. But this is on me, so you go after me, no one else. [Not Cisco.] It's between you and me.
No, it's not. You made it about him when you chose him over me.
[He's not leaving Cisco alone. Besides, compared to the last few boyfriends, he wasn't so bad. He was just in the way and a good way to hurt Hartley. Hence, he was kind of doomed here.]
I'm coming for both of you. [Axel huffs and backs up, away from the door, moving towards the stairs. He'll retreat. For now. Not forever.]
Not being ideal is one thing, being broken and bad with people and emotions. But actively endangering his boyfriend by association? This isn't about giving in to Axel, it's about keeping Cisco safe.
There is nothing about this that he doesn't hate.
Hartley turns, taking off his gloves as he does so, flute already by his side again. He lets the gloves fall to the ground, suppressing a wince. He'll have to rework them too much use still leaves burns, but that seems like a smaller worry now. Instead he approaches the bed and looks at Cisco, indicating his ears.]
[Cisco stays where he is during the exchange, their words muffled but he catches enough, feels the vibrations of the sounds that Hartley's harnessed as a weapon, but they don't make it to his ears.
And then Axel's gone and Hartley's dropping his gloves and moving toward him. Cisco takes the earplugs out and sets them aside, moving to meet Hartley halfway as he sit down on the bed.]
Hey... [His arms instantly wrap around his boyfriend. Crazy and dangerous or not, Axel is one of the few people Hartley counts as a friend and he'd just been forced to hurt that friend. For him. To protect him.
He rests his chin on Hartley's shoulder, his voice soft and right next to his ear.] I'm sorry.
It's not on you, Cisquito. [It takes a moment and then he wraps his arms tightly around Cisco in turn, turning his head to hide his face against Cisco's neck, breathing in his scent, always so strong with his nose buried in his hair.
He knows that he should break things off with Cisco. Cisco is in a lot of danger through association with the Flash, but that's one thing. That is Cisco's choice, that is to help the city, that's not based on someone's selfish desire to for once not be alone. But Hartley holds him close now and his eyes are shut, he lets out a shaky breath. He can't without him. He doesn't want to.]
I know... [He tugs Hartley with him to lay back against the pillows behind them.] But it's not your fault, either. You didn't do this, okay? He did. These were his choices, his actions, and those aren't on you.
[And he wants Hartley to know that. That he doesn't blame him, or think this is on him in any way. Because it's not. And Cisco hopes he can make him see it.]
[Hartley shifts until he can lie properly next to him, his own ears still ringing, as much as he's worked on the right frequencies. Maybe it is phantom pain or maybe it's really just the memory of seeing Axel in so much pain, caused by him, that is hurting.]
Just let me know when he contacts you again. Don't engage.

Safe now. You can take the plugs out.
