He lets out a soft scoff at those words. Typical, really. Hartley was one to deflect and he'd already made up his mind, so there really wouldn't be much convincing him otherwise. But it didn't make any of this easier.
Cisco knows any second now, he'll make his leave. And he doesn't know when or if he'll ever see him again. So, before he can dart out of his life forever, Cisco side-steps right in front of him. "Just...please...just...one more time." He doesn't wait for permission, doesn't even care if he should have or how much harder this is going to make it on both of them. He just can't let him leave without one last kiss, so he presses his lips to Hartley's, soft and gentle and almost chaste, lingering however long Hartley will allow because he doesn't want to let go.
Of course he should pull away and leave immediately, but naturally that is not what happens, because no matter what a show he makes of being rational, how much he wants logic to dictate his actions, Hartley has always been deeply emotional and this? He's not strong enough to not give in. But he doesn't just give in, instead he wraps his arms around Cisco, he deepens the kiss, he pressed against him as if they could meld together somehow, his fingers tangled in Cisco's hair.
He doesn't forget what this is and so it's no wonder that the kiss starts to taste salty, because even with his eyes pressed shut, Hartley is crying.
A part of him had expected Hartley to instantly pull away and leave, and he isn't sure if that would have hurt more of if the fact that he doesn't hurts more. But Cisco doesn't care, he pulls Hartley close, sinks into the hold his boyfriend--ex. ex-boyfriend, shit--has on him.
When he tastes the tears, he pulls away slowly, his forehead pressed to Hartley's. Tears have welled up in his own eyes, "I- I love you. Okay? Just...know that, okay? I..." His fingers trace across Hartley's face. He rolls his lips together and puills away slowly. "I don't want you to go, but...but if you really won't change your mind...y-you should." Because he can't keep himself together much longer, and he doesn't want to devolve into begging him to stay, to change his mind, to stop and just give him another chance to fix this, to be better.
Hartley has a hand against Cisco's face and he moves his thumb, wipes away a tear. He wants to kiss him again. He wants to apologise. Instead, finally, he just turns, head lowered, and heads straight for the door. He doesn't look back and once he's outside, he starts running. There's no getting away from the pain.
Cisco watches as Hartley turns to leave, every fiber of his being screaming at him to stop him, to beg and plead for him to stay, but he doesn't. And when the door shuts with a soft click, he crumbles, right where he stands, onto the ground. He might eventually drag himself to the couch so he doesn't pass out in the middle of his living room.
