And as always, Mick goes where he's led when it comes to Len. A tug at his shirt and he's dropping down beside him, hooking a leg over his and just enjoying the closeness of the moment. There's something slightly reckless and wild when Leonard is happy like this and Mick can't get enough of it.
A hand slips beneath his shirt to rest on his stomach, tipping his head as Lenny combs his fingers through his hair. "Like I said, pretty sure we got ways to keep ourselves busy tonight."
The promise of an entire weekend with Mick, and away from Lewis, is enough to put Leonard in a great mood. Much more apt to fall into territory like this because he's completely at ease here with Mick, not a single worry on his mind.
"Good," he tugs him down closer and crashes his lips against Mick's. He wants to stop thinking for awhile.
Long after they're sated and laying side by side in the quiet dark, Mick still touches him. A hand sliding along his arm, the curve of his shoulder or the sweep of his collarbone. He has Lenny and Lise for an entire weekend and Mick would give anything to keep it like this forever.
He won't be able to bid for custody of Lisa - his record is still public record and someone would remember the kid that burned his entire family to death.
Mick can't give them that, but he can give them as much shelter as he can in the meantime. A few moments to breathe while that asshole was off doing god knows what and if Mick was still even remotely Catholic he'd pray that the bastard got locked up in the process of whatever he was doing.
There are a million and one things for Leonard to worry about all the time, and usually he does. But moments like this, here with Mick, everything can just be paused for a little while and he takes the brief reprieve for all it's worth.
Leonard would sink down into the feelings of comfort and protection he gets from Mick and live there forever if he could. It's addictive, like a drug in its own right, and he can never have enough of it. But it's dangerous and he knows it. The idea that this sanctuary he's built around and in Mick could be stolen from him worries him. What happens when that particular house of cards falls?
He shifts and curls into Mick's side. He doesn't say anything, because everything in his head would ruin the peace of the moment. Instead, he just lays there and soaks up every ounce of this he can, knowing it will end all too soon.
"I can hear you overthinking things Lenny," a quiet murmur, his hand never quiet stopping in its quiet path. The touch helps soothe Mick as much as it does his partner. He knows what he's doing, worrying about the week to come and the one after that, the next idiotic scheme his father is going to cook up or the next time he gets blind drunk and comes after him or Lisa.
Mick can't protect them from that. He'd happily burn Lewis into ash, but that would cost him both Leonard and Lisa. They'd live free of the bastard, but Mick would lose them too and he's not strong enough to handle that.
"Jus' think about tomorrow. About me falling on my ass on the ice and Lise laughing her head off about it. It's just us this weekend. The three of us."
"Shut up," he mumbles, smirking slightly at the not quite admonishment. He leans into the touch, almost like he craves it. It's a wild thing, really, to think he even could crave it; it'd taken Mick three years to make him realize he could handle it at all, and Leonard is pretty sure he'd rarely, if ever, tolerate it from anyone else.
That smirk just widens at his next words. "It will be pretty funny," he teases. "We can take Lis for ice cream after."
A chuckle as he nudges him. Three years of figuring out each other's quirks, three years of being able to trust one another enough that they can have something like this. "Asshole," but the mutter is just as affectionate as he brushes his lips across his forehead.
"Ice cream, hot dogs, the works. Stuff the two of you with junk food the entire weekend."
"Obviously." He agrees with the term, still amused. He really wishes they could be like this forever. One day, he thinks, one day he'll be able to take Lisa away from that hellhole and things will get easier. That mythical day in the future is what gets him through most days.
