"I'll remember that next time you get jumped," he snarks back, but there's no real bite to it. And he damn sure doesn't mean it. As long as they're both here, he'll do what he can to look out for him.
"Plus, m'fine," he says with a slight shrug, an action that's cut short when it pulls wrong around his ribs. He hisses at the pain, but that's about all the show anyone will get from him about it.
"Bullshit," he grumps. "If either of us were fine we wouldn't be here." If Snart didn't have the pain tolerance of a damned mule he would have backed off a hell of a lot sooner. Idiot.
But he'd fought for him. With him. Even his piece of shit brothers wouldn't have gone so far for him.
"I've had worse," he admits in a way that's far too casual. He hasn't said a lot about home, but Mick's talked to him enough that he certainly had the picture anyway.
"And what if they'd gotten you with one?" he shoots back, incredulous and full of disbelief. How could he have such little regard for himself like that?
"They already came at you once," he grumbles. "What if they'd done it again?"
"I can't.." he trails off, grunting as he tries to shift the cast and ignore the burning itch underneath. He can't lose him. Snart is the first person he's given a good goddamn about since the fire. Since before it.
Those words throw him off. He wasn't expecting it, not even a little, and it's awkward, but... he can't deny it's kind of nice to hear, either. He doesn't really have much outside this place, only barely better than what's (not) waiting for Mick on the other side of this detention center sentence. Lisa and his grandpa are all he's got, and Pops won't be around much longer. Leonard sees it when he visits, and in the way even those have gotten fewer even in the last few months. He just can't make it out as much, but he writes. That's enough, at least.
But Mick. That's different. He's not family. He has no reason, by blood or otherwise, to be bound to anything even vaguely shaped like loyalty to Leonard. But he is. And he cares. And it means more than Leonard knows how to put in words.
"Well...you know..." He starts, fidgeting a little with the blanket draped lazily across him. "feeling's mutual." He chances a glance over at him to gauge the reaction that statement might earn him.

He doesn't want to lose him.
He can't.
"Don't wanna lose you too," he finally mutters.
