"They miss him too, Leonard," Barry replies, gently. "Maybe they hadn't been as close, but he was part of the team, and so were you. Sometimes it's easier to cope with your grief if you open up to your family. Trust me, I know."
After a moment, he asks, "You by yourself in there? Want me to come visit?"
A useless argument because he knows he would lose. "It is," Barry admits, "But I need a little bit of a breather, after the whole prison thing. Also uh, I might have stopped a nuclear bomb right after and been forced into a break because I ran for so long trying to figure out how to stop it."
What is a break? How do breaks work? Hell if he knows.
"I'll be there for your next visiting hours, okay?"
"Yeah, I know, it was crazy. You've missed a lot. But I'll be there. I remember what it was like, being alone in there."
Harder on Barry's mind than Leonard's, probably, considering his lack of experience with it and the fact that they put him in his dad's cell. But that's a conversation for another time.
He's there as promised the next day, sitting across from him in the booth and picking up the phone with a smile. "It's kind of weird to be on the other side of this thing again. But it's good to see you, Leonard."
"Been awhile since we've met like this," he smirks, there's something amusingly familiar about it. "So, all that insanity you were spouting off aside...how're things?"
"Aside from the insanity there's...even more insanity? I mean, that was just part of it," Barry says with a laugh, shaking his head. "The latest villain we're fighting is even more of a planner than you, Leonard. He can predict the outcome of every move we make with his mind, and he's absorbed the powers of other metas.
Honestly, you're probably safer here than in Central City. I mean, you also missed me being trapped in the Speed Force for six months, evil me, an alien invasion...oh and you missed my wedding, but that's okay because Nazis invaded from Earth X and we wound up not getting married anyway."
Sorry you asked that question, Leonard? Because there's more where that came from.
"My life has never been lacking in things to deal with, but yours takes the damn cake, Barry. I honestly don't know how you do it." And that's just the truth. Sometimes, the number of things going on in the speedster's life all at once is just highly concerning. Especially with the way there just never seems to be time for him even breathe between crises.
Let him just... attempt to process all of that. And the important takeaway is-- "So you and Iris..." there's a vague motion with his free hand. "It's just delayed, right?" Because as far as he knew, Barry and Iris were the entire freaking universe's big End Game. There's another beat before he adds, half-exasperated, "I mean, honestly, Barry, how do you keep up?" Even for a speedster, this is just so much to juggle at once.
"I...no. We're not. Delayed." But his brain is, with that question. He glances down at his hands. "Felicity rejected Oliver's proposal at our rehearsal dinner, and after the whole Nazi thing Iris thought maybe Felicity was right, that we didn't need to get married, and it was a whole...thing."
He latches onto the last question there, not wanting to talk about that whole thing anymore. "Honestly, I don't even know how I keep up. I'm not actually sure that I do. But I do know that I'm going to find some time to get you out of here, even if I have to use Flash Time to do it. Which is a cool new thing I can do where I run so fast everyone else is still."
"There are...so many things wrong with that scenario. Please tell me someone punched Oliver for trying to one-up you at your own wedding?" Because even if he isn't exactly the saddest over things not working out with Iris for purely selfish reasons of his own, he can at least say he has more class than that.
He can tell Barry really doesn't want to get into it any further, though, so he'll let it lie there. It's easiest. "I would greatly appreciate that." Not that he was put here on false charges or anything, he just would rather not sit this time out and if Barry's willing to go to bat for him, hey, who is he to look a gift horse in the mouth, right? "Sounds weird. Are you sure that's necessary?" Mostly because Leonard doesn't know anything about it, it sounds problematic at best if he personally wouldn't be able to move, and there's always a lingering curiosity to how it might effect Barry. He isn't too keen on the guy running himself into the ground for him, even if it does end in something highly in his favor.
"Actually no...we were all mostly feeling sorry for him, because she shouted to everyone at the whole dinner that she didn't want to marry him." Speaking of classy.
"Well, I don't know if it's actually necessary or not, but it does help with extra time for things when I need it. Like I said, I'll talk to Joe and see what we can do without me losing my job again. Why New York though? Do you even know anybody here?"
"Wow." He's not sure he's sad he missed that hot mess, if he's entirely honest.
"All right, sounds good." He nods a little. At the question he gives something of a wan smile. "Nope," he shakes his head a bit. "That was the point... I didn't want to be somewhere I could be recognized or that I might recognize anything else." Somewhere unknown, with no connections to Mick to speak of at all around is the only thing he felt he could handle these days.
"There's an issue at A.R.G.U.S.," Barry says quickly, standing. "DeVoe's involved, and a meta they have in containment, who can emit radiation, is about to go critical. I'll be back, okay? Don't get yourself into too much trouble in here," he says, with a small smile. He can only handle so many of his friends being in danger at once.
"Right. The world's ending, b-r-b." He muses as he watches the speedster get to his feet and prepare to make a blink-and-you-miss-it disappearance. "Hurry back, Flash." the words are muttered quietly under his breath as he replaces the receiver on the hook and sighs, watching Barry disappear from view.

He groans at the warning, but there's something of a smile in his voice when he says, "You better be, Scarlet."
