A frown crosses her face at the question. "Yeah, I mean-- I've heard of it. But they're like...super rare." She wants to cast that question off like it's nothing. Like it doesn't already tell her what this conversation is going to look like now. But she feels it in the way the air in the room feels like it's drained, or maybe it's just from her own lungs, and how she hears nothing but the pounding of her own hearbeat in her ears.
"I don't know what this is." And he shucks off his shirt, showing where the soul marks have gone an angry red along his shoulders and across his chest. "I know who it is, but he don't want the same things as I do."
"But when Lenny touches them, it stops hurting."
Help him make sense of this, little sister. Mick never read up on the lore when he was a kid and he always zoned out when it was discussed in school.
Her eyes widen when he shows her the change in the marks she doesn't ever remember him not having. The only ones that weren't at the hand of their father.
"Well, who is it?" she asks, carefully running her fingers against the red lines of flame. "Does it hurt?"
She smiles a little and gives him a look right back. "Just becasue you have a crush doesn't mean it's necessarily your soul mate." she points out. She's had plenty of those, even dates, but none of them were whoever her soul bonded 'right one' was, either.
"Does he know?" she looks up at him pointedly. Tread lightly, bub. She'll have Words with you if you answer wrong.
"But he is," Mick counters. "I know he is." He can't explain the pull, the draw that always brings him back around to Leonard Snart, but it's there. "It's not the same."
A frown. He's gonna get yelled at, he knows it. "What am I supposed to tell him? He don't feel the same, if he did I wouldn't be in this fuckup. I can't put that on him. Lenny doesn't date."
So why would he want to date his friend?
Okay sure there was that team dinner but he was just going as Mick's best friend. Right?
"That's what I hear. You just...know." She can't help her curiosity. "Did it feel like...anything? Or was it just a fact you knew inherently somehow? Like....grass is green, the sky is blue, Leonard Snart is the one for you?"
She stops. And stares at him. For so long it almost might be uncomfortable. And then she's all fire and action, smacking the shoulder that is free of those marks--she's not intent on actually hurting him, here, she's just making a point--with every word she says.
"How. Are. You. Such. An idiot?!" She huffs and folds her arms across her chest. "You just said it yourself. He doesn't date. And I've met the guy--" One hand goes up to stop any interruption from what she's about to say because she knows it will come. "He's kinda a giant socially clueless disaster."
He pulls a face at the question. "No it's not like that I just.."
Oh here it comes. Mick knows that look and he knows that he's about to get attacked by his little sister.
"Ow.. goddamnit Becky.. quit it," he fusses at her. If the team only knew that big badass Mick Rory was getting wailed on by his sister and letting it happen..
"So?" He huffs indignantly. "What's that got to do with anything?"
Leonard may be a social disaster but that doesn't mean Mick is that much better.
She pulls a face and sticks her tongue out at him when he tells her to quit. Just let one of those guys say something, she'd give them the what-for, too. She ain't scared of no bitch-ass football players.
"Soooo," she draws the word out, like this should be the most obvious thing in the world, her hands pulling back to rest on her hips. "Did'ja ever think that maybe if he's never dated anyone, he doesn't even recognize what that kind of thing feels like?!" She throws her hands up in the air, frustrated. "For fuck's sake, Mickey, tell him! It might make all the fucking difference in the world!"
Please, in any situation Mick will always bet on his baby sister to come out on top. She's fearless and wonderful. .. and kind of annoying but that goes with the whole sibling territory.
He frowns. How the fuck could someone not know?
.. those first few times they met, Snart being all awkward and.. and just himself. Not understanding why Mick would want to take him to that team dinner. Not understanding why Mick wasn't upset at his sketches of him.
Fuck. He groans, burying his face in his hands because he's just as stupid for not seeing this.
"Oh Jesus," he mutters. "If he's never.. how the hell am I supposed to say 'hey by the way you're my soulmate, what do you think about that'?"
She gives a facial shrug, followed by a proper one with her shoulders and a show of her hands sweeping out. "I mean, it would work?"
She knows he didn't mean that literally. But it might make him laugh, which would be good in lieu of freaking out. He liked to play with matches if he hit a certain panic level.
She moves over next to him, her hand on his arm, voice softer, more serious this time. "For real, you gotta tell him. I know-- you don't wanna shove any guilt on him. He deals with so much, nobody needs more on their plate when they got a bag of dicks for a father. But..."
She presses her lips together and tilts her head slightly to one side, making a curtain of blonde fall to one side of her face. "Mickey, does he know that you're Unmatched? You told him that part, right? How'd he take it?"
Her option had the intended effect and he snorts out a laugh, giving her a shove. Becky's always been able to pull him back from a panic attack or anything that would have him looking for matches to clear the noise in his head.
He shrugs a little and shifts to let her in closer.
"We don't really talk about soul marks and that weird stuff," he admits. "I told him I wasn't matched, even told him about being Unrequited and he wants to find a way around it."
"His touch helps. It makes it all easier. Maybe he'll believe it?"
She smiles softly at the laugh she earned. Good. At least it helped ease things a little.
"He does?" She lights up a little at the thought. She's pretty sure scientists would have found a way around it by now if there was a way, but the fact that this boy cares so much about her brother makes her happy. Maybe she's not totally far off base. "Yeah," she nods a little. "I think that's a pretty good start, Mickey."
She lays her head against his shoulder, "I can't lose you, too." Not after everything else lost in her life.
"You know that dramatic ass," he smiles a little. "Tell him he can't do something and he's gonna spend days figuring out seventeen ways he can do it and do it in style."
Okay. Maybe he can start with that much. He can start with that and hope that it doesn't scare the shit out of Lenny.
"You aren't gonna," he loops an arm around his sister, kissing her hair. "Ain't lost me yet, ain't gonna now."
