"Nah. I had some old friends who grew up here. Needed to come and see the sights." They were long dead, but he still honored them. Right now, though, he knew exactly what they would have said. Go for it.
"I do enjoy making a girl smile. Especially when her smiles light up the room like yours do." he loved her smile, and his own only grew as he turned it on her.
"Fair enough," She didn't see any reason to pry about it, so she didn't bother.
She shrugs, "I dunno," she laughs softly, ducking her head for a second before looking back up at him. "Kinda dumb, right? I don't have a lotta time for fun most days, unfortunately."
"Work at least two jobs, take care of my five younger siblings, make sure my batshit schemer alcoholic father isn't doing somethin' too stupid for the day...take your pick. Not much time life in my day by the time I get home." And that's just the normal day to day, add in the insanity that any of her siblings may be getting up to at any given time and it gets real nuts. "Luckily, most of the kids are mostly self-sufficient at this point. Only got Liam who's a tiny now."
Bucky soundlessly whistled. "How the heck did you manage to get out here today? How did I get this lucky?" That last part slipped out when he didn't mean to, making his cheeks tinge a little pink.
"It's amazing that you do all of that. Ma was like that. She tended to do all the things, all the time, back in Brooklyn."
Bucky leaned forward and captured one of her hands. "I admire someone who can keep it together like that."
"I dropped all the responsibility on the second oldest." She says with a wicked grin. Lip was gonna hate her later, but she didn't care. She deserved some time for herself, goddammit.
She shrugs a little, "I dunno if I'd say I'm all that together. I'm pretty much a mess, all the time."
Bucky laughed, and then grinned at her. "Good on you."
"Who isn't, really?" He nodded, thumb stroking the back of the hand he was holding.
"We're all of us big fakers, trying to balance everything and outrun the moment it all falls down, or at least find some place, or someone, comfortable to fall down at or with."
Her eyes drop, for the briefest of seconds, to his thumb running along her hand before darting back up to him. What he says makes...so much sense to her because it's kind of how she lives her entire fuckin' life, always outrunning the next Gallagher Explosion and trying to predict which direction it'll come from.
She gives him another big grin, "You gotta real good way with words, anybody ever tell ya that?"
"Me? Nah. I just know what I like. And what my life is like. I've been a soldier for forever, and between growing up in crazy times, and that, it all just kind of makes sense." He smiles that she understands, and agrees, and he smiles that she doesn't seem to mind what he is doing with his thumb.
"So, what brings you out to talk to random silly strangers?"
Cute, smart, and humble too. Fi's counting the good and waiting for the bad to arrive, here. No one's perfect and her track record isn't great. She'd like it if he was everything she was seeing right now, though.
At the question, she shrugs a bit, "Why shouldn't I? Never know who you'll meet."
"I'm enjoying the meeting, myself. There is something you should know. I have a prosthetic limb." Pulling his hand from hers, he put his other hand down against the table, and pulled the glove from it, revealing the metal hand that flexed and moved like a normal one, mostly.
"A relic of serving. " His voice wasn't bitter these days when he stated it.
She tips her head when he says there’s something she should know. Maybe this was it. That shoe she was waiting to drop on her head with this already too-great-to-be-real guy. But then he explains about a prosthetic and, well, she doesn’t even know what to say. Until he shows her, anyway.
“You ever come to my house and my brother’s gonna ask if you’re a robot. Just a headsup.” She figured she may as well warn him now. Her family and tact don’t exactly go hand-in-hand very often. Or ever, really. “That’s some real state’a the art stuff, huh?” It definitely looks it. “Least they could do for askin’ what they do outta ya, I guess.”
Bucky chuckled. "I can deal with that. Not a problem." He smiled warmly, glad she was taking it well.
"It was a complicated situation, but I've learned to adapt to it." The hand reached out to tap her nose, gentle and warm. As warm as a human hand, really.
"Lip might be more interested in askin' ya questions about how it works though. ...if he's home from college for awhile, at least." She shrugs a little. He'd be the talk of the house if the kids found out, honestly.
She crinkles her nose at the action, laughing a little. "You're somethin' else, yanno that?" She doesn't ask about the 'complicated situation' because it doesn't really matter to her. She knows all about complicated, so she won't press it.
"Oh yeah? He knows mechanical stuff? If so, he might know more about how such a thing can work than I would. I didn't design or build it. I just know how to use it." He nodded.
"Something else good, or something else bad?" Because, really, the rest didn't matter.
She nods, grinning a little. "Yeah, he's goin' ta fancy techie school and everything." Her smile brightens a little and there's a fondness in her next words, "First Gallagher ta go ta college. Still can't believe that."
"Good. Because I would really like to take you to dinner, Fiona." He leans in then, and without hesitating, kisses her, long, slow, and passionately. Just because.
That was certainly unexpected for a first meeting. And also not really at all, because of how so many times her first meetings end up pushed far beyond a kiss in a dinerand instead ended somewhere with clothes disappearing in a trail to the nearest flat surface.
So.
She kisses him back without hesitation, because this is fine, this is what she's used to. She pulls back grinning. "Deal sealed with a kiss, huh?" she crinkles her nose a little and nods up at him. "Pick me up Friday night," She grabs a napkin and drags a pen out of her purse, scribbling down an address. She slides it across the table to him. "Eight o'clock."
"Seemed like the way to go, yes." He grinned as she responded well to it, and he took the address when she handed it to him, memorizing it. He nibbled one lip.
"I'll be there, with bells on."
He grinned at her. "I'm really glad I answered your text."
She laughs softly, “Me too.” She says with a grin before getting to her feet. “I’ll see you Friday.” She casts him one more glance over her shoulder as she leaves the shop. She’s pretty sure guys like this aren’t for real, or forever, but she’ll take him for a spin anyway.
